Dining Room Tuesday, July 18th 2017.
When everything else in the dining room is simple and neutral, with no particularities designed to make the decor stand out, you can add some character to the room through wall art or potted plants. This is a way of introducing a new color palette to the space as well as some texture and pattern. It’s possible to play with styles by mixing and matching contrasting elements. Notice the way in which the traditional wooden chairs dialogue with the chic pendant lamp displayed above the table and the playful picture displayed on the wall. This is an interior by Anna Carin Design. Apart from the different in style influences, the decor also features contrasts of color.
A fireplace can really make a dining room feel extra cozy and inviting. You can have one that matches the room’s décor. So if you have a traditional or rustic home, a fireplace such as the one used here by Clites Architects would be an interesting choice. The wall décor is another aspect to take into consideration. Peter Wilds chose here to frame a selection of minimalist black and white images and to display them on a gallery wall. The frames are not placed in a symmetrical or regular pattern. Their random placement sets a casual and relaxed ambiance.
Balance is key so if you decide to go with a large and opulent chandelier in the living room, it would be nice to keep everything else simple and neutral. Check out this project by Brown Design Group for an idea of how to do this. The oval table, the chairs, the walls, floor and wall décor are in sync sharing similar characteristics. Dining room tables come in many different forms. The one used here by Heather Garrett has a wooden base which strongly resembles the trunk of a tree just where it disappears into the ground. There are also several other elements which are nature-inspired.
